Dirk van der Duim > Our Rural Ministry Immersion started with several days of classes at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago. Pictured here is our group of ten seminary students, along with our three professors. Our trip involved traveling to several towns in Nebraska and learning about rural ministry from the people there. We split up for the first part, with a few of us going North, near Pender, then we all went to a rural ministry conference in Aurora. Atkinson and Bassett were our next stops, visiting local businesses, farmers, churches, and landmarks. We were hosted most nights by gracious members of the local congregations (St. Peter's in Bassett and St. John's in Atkinson). Our main leaders were Pastor Nancy Nyland, Larry Poessnecker, and Barry Frerichs, but many others contributed to our experience as well. They all showed us amazing hospitality throughout the whole trip, and our class is truly grateful for the experience.
Dirk van der Duim > Dennis Gengenbach, Rev. Ruth Boettcher, and Rev. D. Jensen Seyenkulo gave us an introduction to rural ministry before we left for the trip.
